How to Create a Website, 3 Easy Steps to Follow Along

At the end of the day, we all need to know how to create a website. It’s really not all that difficult.

In all honesty, I’m self-taught when it comes to websites, search engine optimization, and graphic design.

Have you ever told anybody that? I mean that your self-taught? People have actually laughed at me.

BUT hey, my perseverance has done well for me and now I’m ready to share with you all that I’ve learned. Just follow these simple steps to help get you on your way.

Get a domain name

Before you run off and purchase a domain name from Yahoo! Small Business or GoDaddy, you might want to rethink that one.

Some hosting companies now offer free domain names when you purchase a hosting plan with them. Or at least, a free domain for a the first year.

And that does have its perks, like not having to change the dns servers or deal with two separate companies and two separate payments.

My setup is through Yahoo! Small Business for my domain names, because that’s just how I started. And being a creature of habit…well.

Find a web hosting company

Whether you’re starting a business website or personal blog a good hosting company is imperative. We’ve always had such great ongoing support from our team over at InMotion Hosting. Check out their hosting packages offering shared hosting or virtual private servers.

If you’re just starting out, which is why I guess you’re here, start with a beginners package like business hosting or WordPress hosting. You can always upgrade later if you find out you’re missing some key components.

Decide on a website platform

What platform are you going to use? This is a pretty important step especially when you go to pick out your website template. Will you be building a eCommerce store using Magento or creating a personal blog using WordPress. These are things you’ll need to think about and decide on to build your vision.
